What Does B Corp Mean? A Simple Guide for Parents (UK)

If you've ever found yourself Googling "what does B Corp mean" while shopping for baby skincare, you're not alone. Parents see a lot of "natural", "eco", and "ethical" language, but it's not always clear what's independently checked and what's just marketing. That's where B Corp certification can help. B Corp is a whole-business certification that assesses a company's social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability against the B Lab Standards — verified and audited through a formal certification process. So rather than focusing only on one product claim, B Corp looks at how a brand operates overall — the behind-the-scenes stuff that matters if you're trying to buy a little more thoughtfully, without turning shopping into a full-time job. If you're browsing for everyday essentials like baby wash and lotion, you can explore gentle, family-friendly options in Love Boo's Family Range. Below, we explain what B Corp means in the UK, how certification works, and what to look for when choosing ethical baby and family skincare. B Corp Certified Baby Products UK Parents in the UK are used to seeing labels like "natural", "dermatologically tested", or "hypoallergenic". Those can be helpful — but they're usually product-level claims. B Corp is different: it's designed as a whole-business certification. B Corp certification assesses and verifies a company's social, environmental, and governance impact against the B Lab Standards — a credible framework because it includes independent verification and auditing as part of the certification process. So when you search for B Corp certified baby products UK, the real shortcut is this: has the company been independently assessed against recognised standards, and committed to transparency and accountability as it grows? What This Means in Practice B Corp is designed to move beyond vague feel-good messaging by assessing and verifying practices across the business — not just one product line. What B Corp Doesn't Automatically Mean To keep things clear, it's worth knowing what B Corp certification doesn't guarantee: It doesn't automatically mean every ingredient is organic It doesn't automatically mean every product is fragrance-free It doesn't replace product suitability checks, including patch testing for sensitive skin Think of B Corp as the "how the business behaves" layer — which sits alongside product considerations like ingredients and suitability. As a proud B Corp, Love Boo's commitment to doing business responsibly is reflected not just in how products are made, but in real-world action beyond its products — including its 'Paying it Forward' partnership with the Nourish Fund, supporting families and communities beyond the bathroom shelf. What Is B Corp Certification UK B Corp certification is managed by B Lab, supported locally by B Lab UK, and is presented as an integrated business certification focused on performance, transparency and accountability. Here's the parent-friendly version of the journey: 1. Assessment Setup and Eligibility Foundations Companies start by creating a B Impact account and completing an assessment setup tailored to their business type, size and location, including foundation requirements. 2. Completing the Assessment The company completes the assessment aligned to B Lab Standards. 3. Evidence, Audit and Verification B Lab UK describes a process that includes assigning an assurance provider — an independent third-party auditor — issuing audit reports, and addressing nonconformities via corrective actions. B Lab's Knowledge Hub also outlines a multi-stage review process after submission, covering evaluation, verification, a possible improvement stage, and post-verification. 4. Ongoing Accountability and Recertification B Lab UK describes certification as valid for 5 years, with a Year 3 audit and Year 5 recertification audit required to maintain certification. Importantly, B Lab UK frames B Corp as a journey of continuous improvement and accountability — not a "perfect forever" badge. Ethical Certified Baby Brand UK "Ethical" can mean different things to different families. For some it's ingredients; for others it's packaging, transparency, or the way a company operates. If you're looking for an ethical certified baby brand UK, it helps to think in three simple layers. 1. Product Suitability (What Goes on Skin) Is it designed for everyday use? Does it suit your family's skin needs and sensitivities? Do you prefer fragrance-free, or a gentle scent? Every baby is different — patch testing is always a sensible step when trying new skincare, and consulting a medical professional where needed. 2. Brand Integrity (How the Company Operates) This is where B Corp can help: it's positioned as a whole-business certification linked to standards for performance, transparency and accountability. Look for: Clear, specific information — not just broad "eco" phrases Honest promises with no miracle claims Signs of progress over time, because B Corp is framed as a journey 3. Practicality (Will You Actually Use It?) Because the most "ethical" choice is often the one you can stick with: It fits your daily routine The whole family can use it It's easy to repurchase If you're building an easy family skincare routine, Love Boo's Family Range is designed for gentle, everyday use. How to Use B Corp as a Shortcut (Without Overthinking It) If you're time-poor — and most parents are — here's the simplest way to use B Corp. Step 1: Use B Corp to Shortlist Brands B Corp certification is positioned as a verified standard for responsible business practices, making it a helpful filter when you don't have the time to research everything from scratch. Step 2: Choose the Product That Suits Your Family Then pick based on your real-life needs: Wash vs lotion vs balm Sensitive skin considerations Scent preferences What you'll actually use daily In other words: B Corp helps answer "Is this business committed to verified standards and accountability?" — and you still answer "Is this right for us?" The Family Range: Everyday, Gentle Options from a B Corp Brand If you're looking for a straightforward place to start, Love Boo's Family Range is designed for gentle, everyday care across the household — mums, babies, and everyone in between. As a certified B Corp, Love Boo has been independently assessed against standards for how it operates as a business, alongside creating family-friendly skincare. The Family Range collection is natural, paraben-free, British-made, and suitable for sensitive skin. Explore the collection here: loveboo.com/collections/family-range Frequently Asked Questions What does B Corp mean? B Corp means a company has been certified against standards for social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability, with the certification process independently verified and audited. What is B Corp certification in the UK? In the UK, B Corp certification is supported by B Lab UK and includes assessment setup, verification and audit steps, and ongoing requirements over a five-year certification period. Does B Corp mean a baby product is organic or "all natural"? No. B Corp focuses on how the business operates overall. Product-level claims like organic or fragrance-free should always be checked on the product itself. Are B Corp certified baby products better for sensitive skin? B Corp certification doesn't automatically guarantee product suitability for sensitive skin — every baby is different. It's best used as a trust signal about the business, alongside checking ingredients and suitability for your child. How often do B Corps get checked? B Lab UK describes certification as valid for 5 years, with a Year 3 audit and a Year 5 recertification audit required as part of maintaining certification. Is Love Boo a B Corp? Yes — Love Boo is proud to be a certified B Corp.
Do Stretch Mark Creams and Oils Actually Work? Love Boo

Do Stretch Mark Creams and Oils Actually Work?

Do stretch mark creams and oils work? The honest answer is: there's limited evidence they prevent stretch marks, but they can help support your skin. Most products won't completely prevent stretch marks, but they can still play an important role in how your skin feels, stretches and recovers. Stretch marks are influenced by genetics, hormones, and how quickly your skin stretches during pregnancy — and not all of these factors are within your control. No cream or oil can change those underlying causes. What the right products can do is support hydration, reduce dryness and help your skin feel more comfortable as it stretches. Understanding what creams and oils can do — and what they can't — helps shift expectations from prevention to support. Natural Stretch Mark Oil Pregnancy Natural oils are one of the most common choices during pregnancy because they are simple, gentle and easy to use consistently. A natural stretch mark oil during pregnancy won't stop stretch marks from forming completely. There's no strong evidence that any topical product can guarantee prevention. However, keeping the skin hydrated and supple may help it respond better to stretching. Why oils are still widely used: Reduce dryness and tightness Improve skin softness and flexibility Support comfort as your bump grows Encourage regular massage, which supports circulation Routine matters as much as the product itself. Applying oil daily supports consistent hydration, and gentle massage helps you stay aware of how your skin is changing. What to Look for in a Pregnancy-Safe Oil Lightweight and easy to absorb Nourishing, plant-based ingredients Subtle or minimal fragrance Suitable for daily use Supporting your skin isn't just about the oil itself. Preparing the skin with gentle exfoliation and maintaining hydration throughout the day can also help. Using a dedicated oil such as Love Boo Massage Oil makes this routine easier, allowing your hands to glide comfortably across the skin. Best Natural Oil for Stretch Marks UK When searching for the best natural oil for stretch marks UK, it's easy to assume one product will outperform everything else. In reality, effectiveness comes down to consistency and how well the product fits into your routine. Different oils vary in texture and absorption, which directly affects how often you'll use them. Look for: A balanced texture — not too heavy, not too thin Smooth application without stickiness Comfortable daily wear Good absorption with enough glide for massage Consistency is where real benefits come from. Occasional use has limited impact, while daily use supports hydration over time and massage improves coverage and application. Setting Realistic Expectations Even with the best oil, stretch marks may still develop — especially if you're naturally more likely to get them. They're influenced by rapid stretching, hormones, genetics and natural elasticity working together. What these products can do is: Reduce tight, uncomfortable skin Maintain softness Support overall skin condition Improve how skin feels day to day That's a meaningful outcome, even if it's not complete prevention. Stretch Mark Prevention Natural Pregnancy Stretch mark prevention during pregnancy is sometimes framed as something you can fully control. In reality, it's only partially within your control. There are three main factors: Genetics — some people are more likely to develop stretch marks Hormones — which affect collagen and elasticity Rate of growth — faster stretching increases likelihood No natural product can override these factors entirely, which is why evidence around prevention is mixed. What Natural Approaches Can Do Support hydration and comfort Reduce itching and tightness Improve overall skin condition Potentially soften the appearance of stretch marks over time A practical approach is to apply oil or cream daily, start early in pregnancy and continue throughout and post birth, massage gently, and focus on comfort rather than perfection. Stretch marks often start as red or purple lines and gradually fade. Supporting your skin early may help how they develop and settle, even if it doesn't stop them forming. What Actually Causes Stretch Marks Stretch marks occur when the deeper layers of the skin stretch faster than they can adapt, causing small tears that heal as visible lines. During pregnancy, skin stretches rapidly across the abdomen, hips and chest, hormones affect collagen production, and skin becomes more prone to marking under tension. This is why stretch marks can still develop even with consistent product use — the changes are happening beneath the surface. Why Creams and Oils Can't Fully Prevent Them They work on the outer layers of the skin They don't alter genetic elasticity They don't control hormonal changes This doesn't make them ineffective, but it does clarify their role. A Realistic Approach That Still Supports Your Skin The most helpful shift is moving from "Do stretch mark creams and oils work?" to "How can I support my skin through this?" Pregnancy brings noticeable changes to your body, and it's normal to have mixed feelings about them. Stretch marks and shifts in skin are part of how your body adapts — not something you've done wrong. Keeping your skin hydrated and following a simple routine can improve comfort as your body changes. A warm bath to soften the skin, followed by gentle massage with oil, or switching to a body lotion during the day, can all support your skin in a way that feels manageable. A realistic approach looks like this: Accept that stretch marks may happen Use products for comfort and care Focus on consistency Keep your routine simple and sustainable Products like Love Boo Massage Oil and Love Boo Perineum Oil can help make this routine easy to maintain. Over time, this becomes less about trying to prevent stretch marks and more about keeping your skin feeling supported and comfortable throughout pregnancy. That shift — from expectation to support — is what makes the biggest difference. Frequently Asked Questions Do stretch mark creams actually work? There is limited evidence that any cream or oil can fully prevent stretch marks. However, they can support skin hydration, reduce tightness and improve comfort as your skin stretches during pregnancy. When should I start using stretch mark oil in pregnancy? Start as early as possible and continue throughout your pregnancy and into the postpartum period. Consistency over time is more effective than occasional use. What is the best natural oil for stretch marks UK? Look for a lightweight, plant-based oil that absorbs easily and is suitable for daily use. A purpose-designed product like Love Boo Massage Oil is formulated for regular use on skin during pregnancy. Can I prevent stretch marks naturally? Genetics, hormones and rate of growth all play a role in whether stretch marks develop. Natural oils and creams can support skin condition and comfort, but cannot guarantee prevention. How often should I apply stretch mark oil? Daily application gives the best results. Even a short routine — a few minutes of gentle massage after a bath or shower — can make a meaningful difference to how your skin feels over time.

Hospital Bag Checklist: Skincare and Beauty Essentials

Hospital Bag Checklist: Skincare and Beauty Essentials Packing your hospital bag can feel deceptively simple, until you actually start. Suddenly, every checklist looks different and advice varies widely. Some lists are strictly practical, while others turn into long shopping lists filled with "just in case" extras. Skincare is often treated as an afterthought, if it appears at all. But the reality is this: your skin goes through a lot during labour, birth and the early post birth days. Hormonal shifts, hospital air, frequent hand washing, interrupted sleep and physical recovery can all affect how your skin feels. During this time, comfort often matters more than appearance or results. This hospital bag checklist UK guide focuses specifically on skincare and body care essentials, with a calm, realistic approach. It isn't about overpacking — that can create unnecessary stress. Instead, it's about bringing a few thoughtfully chosen items that support comfort, gentleness and familiarity when your body has been through something significant. Quick note: This article offers general skincare guidance, not medical advice. If you have specific skin conditions, allergies or concerns, always check with your midwife or healthcare professional. Natural Skincare for a Hospital Bag Hospitals are functional spaces, not comforting ones. Dry air, bright lighting, unfamiliar routines, antiseptic smells and frequent washing can all contribute to skin feeling tight, dry or overstimulated. Even people who don't usually consider their skin sensitive may notice changes during this time. This is why many people lean towards natural skincare options in their hospital bag — not because "natural" is a cure-all, but because simpler, more familiar formulations can feel reassuring when your body is in recovery mode. Post birth skin often experiences: Increased dryness from showers and hospital air Heightened sensitivity linked to hormonal changes Frequent hand washing Discomfort or tension in intimate or stretched areas A desire for familiar textures or gentle scents This isn't the time for active ingredients, corrective treatments or complicated routines. It's a moment for softness, ease and skin comfort. What Works Well in a Hospital Setting When packing skincare for hospital, it helps to think practically rather than striving for picture-perfect. Products that work best tend to be: Multipurpose (one product, several uses) Simple in formulation Easy to apply quickly Comfortable on sensitive or reactive skin Oils are often chosen in hospital bags because they act as emollients, helping the skin feel softer and reducing friction on dry or delicate areas. They don't replace medical care, but they can support skin comfort during a period when everything feels heightened. This is why products like Love Boo Perineum Oil are often included — not as a fix or solution, but as a gentle option for skin that has worked hard and may benefit from calm, intentional care. Chemical Free Products for a Hospital Bag Searches for "chemical free" products are extremely common during pregnancy and post birth. In reality, everything is made of chemicals — including water. What people usually mean is products that avoid harsh or unnecessary ingredients and feel predictable on the skin. After birth, skin can feel more reactive and less tolerant of things you normally use without issue. Strong fragrances, highly active formulas or products making bold claims can suddenly feel overwhelming. A "chemical free" mindset (in everyday terms) usually means choosing products that: Avoid strong actives Avoid complicated claims Focus on comfort rather than results It's not about removing everything from your routine. It's about removing friction — both physically and mentally. In hospital, reliability matters more than variety. Best Natural Baby Products for a Hospital Bag (UK Guidance) When it comes to newborn skincare, less really is more. NHS guidance recommends using plain water only for newborns during the early days and weeks. This allows the infant's skin to develop its natural protective barrier before anything extra is introduced. Many parents don't use any baby skincare products at all until they're home — and that's completely fine. There's no rush and no expectation to use products in hospital. If dryness appears later, a simple, fragrance-free emollient may be used if needed, ideally after checking with your midwife or healthcare professional. If and when a product is used: It should be designed specifically for delicate skin Fragrance free and used sparingly Introduced after the first few weeks, ideally with guidance Skincare Essentials Worth Packing for You If you're keeping things simple, many people find it helpful to pack: Lip balm (hospital air can be drying) Gentle hand cream A multipurpose oil (for dryness, massage or comfort) Basic toiletries you already trust Familiar skincare items can help a clinical space feel momentarily grounding. Small comforts often make a bigger difference than expected during long, unpredictable days. A Ready-Packed Skincare Option for New Mums When you're already juggling appointments, checklists and preparation, removing decision fatigue can be helpful. This is where Love Boo's New Mama Gift Bundle fits naturally into a hospital bag checklist focused on skincare and comfort. Rather than packing lots of individual items, the bundle brings together products designed with post birth care in mind — including Love Boo's Perineum Oil. The focus is on multipurpose, gentle care, which suits a hospital environment where routine often falls away. The Perineum Oil is commonly used for: Perineal massage before birth Gentle skin comfort after delivery Massage of dry or sensitive areas It isn't positioned as a guarantee or solution — simply a calm, supportive option many people feel comfortable reaching for during recovery. Why the New Mama Gift Bundle Works Well in a Hospital Bag When you're packing a hospital bag, simplicity matters. The New Mama Gift Bundle covers common post birth skin needs in a small, thoughtful collection, without requiring a set routine or multiple separate products. The products are made with pregnancy-safe ingredients and are designed to feel gentle on skin that may be tired, sensitive or over-washed. Instead of packing single-use items, the bundle focuses on flexibility. It makes practical sense because: Products can be used as needed, without pressure to "do" skincare Several items work across different areas of the body Familiar textures can make an unfamiliar space feel more manageable The Soothing Balm and Big Softie Baby Balm are often reached for to ease dryness, irritation or friction — for mums, and when appropriate, babies too. Other items, such as the Bath Soak, are ideal to have ready for when you return home and recovery feels more settled. Several ingredients in the bundle — including meadowfoam, rosehip and sweet almond oils, alongside mallow, chamomile and cucumber extracts — are commonly chosen for their skin-comforting feel when sensitivity is higher after birth. Overall, the bundle supports a less-but-better approach: fewer decisions, gentler care and a sense of preparedness during an intense transition. Final Thoughts Your hospital bag doesn't need to be perfect. It just needs to support you. Skincare may feel small compared to the enormity of birth, but comfort often lives in the details — familiar textures, gentle routines and knowing you've packed a few things you trust. This hospital bag checklist UK guide isn't about adding more. It's about choosing calmly, wisely and with realism. Sometimes, a little care goes a long way.

Love Boo Mummy Skincare

I must admit I’ve been quite slack when it comes to applying lotions and potions to my growing baby bump. Both in my twin pregnancy and my current pregnancy, I applied creams and oils sporadically, no more than a few times a week. Now I’ve reached the third trimester, when stretch marks are most likely to appear,  I thought it about time I establish some kind of routine in using pregnancy products to keep my skin in good condition. Since these four products from the Love Boo Mummy Skincare range have arrived, I’ve been enjoying applying them at least once a day – twice if I remember!  The Love Boo range is a beautiful collection of skin care products, not only for pregnancy, but for after baby arrives too. Free from parabens and packed full of active ingredients, the luxurious range is natural and safe to use both whilst pregnant and nursing. I absolutely adore the packaging of this brand – pastel polka dots, butterflies and pretty fonts make it ultra feminine and a pleasure to use. Breast Toner (Bossom Buddy) A rapidly expanding bust is a common symptom of pregnancy, so I’m happy to have a product which is specifically designed to treat this area. The aptly named Bosom Buddy tones, tightens and helps stop stretch marks thanks to its natural ingredients. Centella and ginkgo biloba help to firm and improve elasticity whilst argan oil softens, smooths and tightens the chest area, reducing the appearance of stretch marks. This is a rich and luxurious cream to apply, which is easily absorbed and leaves my skin noticeably smooth. Body Wash A naturally fragrance citrus body wash with special ingredients to keep skin supple and hydrated whilst gently cleansing. This body wash is perfect for dry or itchy skin, which is ideal for me as I’ve noticed my bump has become more itchy the bigger it grows! The subtle lemon and ginger fragrance is also great for calming morning sickness if you’re in the early stages of pregnancy. The Miracle Oil (Perineum Oil) This 100% natural oil is delicately scented with passion flower, sweet almond and argan oil, which combine to create a subtle and revitalizing fragrance. With a silky texture, I was happy to discover this oil is non-greasy and absorbs quickly into the skin (unlike Bio-Oil!), so I’ve had no problems with it marking or rubbing off on clothing. Like most pregnancy oils, it works to combat the appearance of stretch marks and restore skin elasticity by moisturizing and nourishing the skin, and I’ve noticed my skin feels supple and soft after applying this. Purely Natural Pampering for Baby & Mum - Love Boo

Purely Natural Pampering for Baby & Mum

I received the products mentioned below to facilitate my review. All opinions, however, are 100% my own! My daughter loves bath time with all that splashing, bubbles and water involved. When Love Boo asked if we would like to try out some of their products, we were really excited! Love Boo is a company based in the UK specializing in baby and mummy skin care. They offer a wide range of pampering products made of the finest quality natural ingredients. Love Boo has banned parabens, petrochemicals, sulfates, synthetic colors, triethanolamine and diethanolamine in their products! We were able to try out Love Boo Hair Care Range, Very Gentle Top-To-toe Wash and Marvelous Mummy Kit. Love Boo Hair Care Range  Love Boo’s natural hair care range consists of shampoo, conditioner & de tangling spray. These hair care products contain natural oils and extracts to make hair washing a delightful and luxurious experience for all the family. All Love Boo’s hair products are created to de tangle and de-frizz kids hair and leave combing tantrum-free!   Soft & Shiny Shampoo (250ml) contains Argan oil, coconut, fig, and papaya extract, creating a perfect combination to get silky, soft and tangle-free hair. The shampoo has a sweet scent reminding me of baby powder. It lathers up nicely and creates a rich foam my daughter loves. The shampoo is not tear-free, so I was really cautious when washing Sofia’s hair at first, trying not to get any foam in her eyes, but in the end, it looks like the product does not sting as much when it does get in the eyes. Soft & Shiny Conditioner (250ml) helps to achieve moisturized, knot-free and super-silky hair thanks to fig, coconut, and Argan oil. It was a first time I used any conditioner on my daughter’s hair. I was a little bit skeptical and thinking that kids do not need conditioner, but I still gave it a try. The conditioner is really creamy, easy to apply and rinses out really well. As a result, my daughter ended up with bouncy shiny curls. No More Knots De tangling Spray (250ml) works wonders for tangles, knots, and frizzy hair! It’s a leave-in spray containing papaya and coconut extract for shine and hydration and Argan oil for releasing the tangles. We used it on wet hair, but you can use it for dry hair too. It really made combing much easier and Sofia’s hair was tangle-free even in the next morning.   What I really like about the hair care line, is that the products smell really great and the result is exactly what the product description says. The press down caps to the shampoo and conditioner are a huge plus, as my daughter loves to play with bottles and tries to spill all the product on the floor. Thanks to these caps, I know that no product will be wasted.   Very Gentle Top-To-Toe Wash  Love Boo’s award-winning top-to-toe wash comes in a bottle of 250ml and contains Tahitian Monoi, olive oil, and oats for extra soft and soothed skin. As the apple extract is used as a cleansing agent, this product is perfect for your baby’s delicate skin.   My daughter really loved that Love Boo’s Top-To-Toe Wash creates a lot of foam and smells really great. You just need a really small amount to wash all your body. We have used this wash for 2 weeks every day, and Sofia’s skin is perfectly moisturized, so this product washes the skin without drying. Marvellous Mummy kit  This kit makes a great gift for any mom-to-be and also as a baby shower gift. The Mummy Kit products are safe for use when pregnant or nursing.   It has a really cute packaging and contains four award-winning products: Splendidly Soothing Bath Soak (50 ml) helps to relax and calm your tired body and mind thanks to Arnica extract, white water lily, chamomile, and mallow. Rose geranium oil gives this bath soak a fragrance of a sweet rose garden. Even with a small quantity of the product gives your bath a great smell and a lot of luxurious bubbles.   Silky Soft Body Wash (50ml) nourishes and moisturizes your skin thanks to its special blend of white water lily, mallow, and avocado oil. My favorite part of this body wash is the fragrance! It smells of ginger and lemon and leaves the skin with a subtle fresh smell.   Super Stretchy Miracle Oil (50ml) is a special blend of 100% natural oils rich in Omega & and 9. Passion flower, sweet almond, and Argan oils help to banish stretch marks, even out skin tone and fade the appearance of scars. I have some stretch marks from my pregnancy and after 2 weeks of using, those marks are a little bit lighter already. I love that it smells of ginger, lemon, and peppermint. The Miracle Oil does not leave my body oily and it absorbs really quickly.   Soft & Creamy Body Smoother (25ml) is recommended to use together with the Miracle Oil to soften and firm your skin. Containing anti-ageing Centella, elasticity Increaser hibiscus flower and Shea butter, this body butter helps to reduce the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite. Thanks to Shea butter, the smoother melts into the skin and your hands, nor skin have no sticky or greasy residue after applying the product. It has a really great scent and works great together with the Miracle Oil.   I really like that the Marvellous Mummy Kit products come in a small size so you can try out the products and buy the ones you really love in a bigger size. The minis are perfect for traveling and also, why not add these products to your hospital bag. Even if the products seem more expensive that your normal hair and skin care products, they go a long way as a really small amount of product is needed. Natural ingredients are great for baby’s skin and worth their cost! Check the full review : http://www.homelifeabroad.com/family/love-boo-review/
What do the Spice Girls have in common with Bottom Butter? – it’s not what you think! - Love Boo

What do the Spice Girls have in common with Bottom Butter? – it’s not what you think!

Hi Mumblers! Jennifer from Love Boo here, we’re a mummy and baby skincare company with a difference – we launched our brand purely because we couldn’t find any suitable products to use on our own babies! In our previous lives, my friend and now business partner, Corinna and I were both magazine writers (fun fact: it was us who gave the Spice Girls their nicknames while working together at Top of The Pops Magazine!) we had no business experience and never imagined we’d create a skincare range!   But back in 2007, we found ourselves on maternity leave at the same time moaning about the fact that it was hard to find natural baby skincare that was luxurious, actually worked and looked gorgeous on our nursery shelves. From that small idea Love Boo was born – a range of UK-made, natural products for Mum and Baby with modern benefits – but it wasn’t an easy journey! We had no idea where to start and our little ones were still tots so it was all a bit of a juggle. After a lot of searching, we found a botanical chemist who worked with us on all our ideas. We’d spend hours after the kids had gone to bed designing our packaging and website – our husbands moaned that we spent more time talking to each other than them, but it was all worth it when we got the products produced and on our website! Slowly but surely, the right people started to notice our brand and John Lewis approached us and began  to stock our gift boxes. We’d get amazing reviews from mums who had tried our skincare and loved it so we plucked up the courage to enter the Mother & Baby Awards (the Oscars of the baby world!) as we knew it was judged by real parents and the products could do the talking. On the night of the awards we realised we were up against some giants of the nursery world, we were gobsmacked when our name was announced as GOLD winners – the top accolade. Moments like that make all the hard work worthwhile. We just love meeting mums and dads at the baby shows we do up and down the country and hearing about their favorite products. If we had to name our faves, I think we would both say hands down our Soft & Creamy Body Smoother – we both suffer from ultra-dry skin and this wonder cream is so rich and moisturizing it softens and soothes immediately (plus we always get asked what the delicious smell is!   Check out our website here www.loveboo.com   Or, as we are based in Wakefield, feel free to get in touch if you’re in the area and arrange for us to visit your playgroup or class with samples and testers.   We know first-hand how it feels to not want to go back to your previous job once you’ve had a baby. We spent years working on our dream to work around our family life. We want to make it easier for parents who like us want to find a way of working that they can fit around family life. We’re currently launching a home-selling side to Love Boo here in Yorkshire, where parents can host their very own get together with some Love Boo pampering and earn some extra pounds by home-selling themselves! (Get in touch at hello@loveboo.com for more details. We’ll be appearing at QEGS Table Tots market on Sunday 4th June so would be great to see you there. And even though sometimes it’s just wishful thinking, fitting in a five minute pamper or a long soak in the bath when you can really does work wonders – after all, you deserve it! Understanding Eczema :
How stress effects your skin

Eczema isn’t just a skin condition — it’s closely connected to your body, your immune system, and especially your stress levels. Many people notice that their eczema flares up exactly when life gets busier or more overwhelming. But why does this happen? 1. Stress weakens the skin barrier When you’re stressed, your body produces more cortisol (the stress hormone). High cortisol levels can weaken the skin’s natural barrier, making it harder to retain moisture.Result: Dryness, irritation, and more flare-ups. 2. Stress triggers inflammation Stress causes the immune system to react, leading to inflammation throughout the body — including the skin. This inflammation can make eczema patches redder, itchier, and more sensitive. 3. Stress increases scratching habits When you’re anxious or overwhelmed, you’re more likely to scratch without noticing.More scratching = more irritation and slower healing. 4. Stress affects sleep — which affects your skin Poor sleep weakens skin repair and increases inflammation. This creates a cycle where eczema worsens because the skin cannot properly heal overnight. How to Break the Stress–Eczema Cycle Practice simple relaxation activities (breathing, meditation, stretching)Maintain a consistent skincare routineKeep the skin hydrated with gentle, fragrance-free moisturizersGet enough sleep whenever possibleIdentify your stress triggers and manage them proactively

Mineral vs Chemical Sunscreen: What You Need to Know

When it comes to sun protection, choosing the right sunscreen is just as important as remembering to apply it. With so many options on the market, the biggest question most people ask is: Should I use a mineral or chemical sunscreen? Both types protect your skin from harmful UV rays, but they work in completely different ways — and understanding those differences can help you make the best choice for your skin type, lifestyle, and skin concerns. In this article, we’ll break down how each sunscreen works, who it’s best for, and how to pick the perfect option for glowing, healthy skin. What Is Mineral Sunscreen? Also known as physical sunscreen, mineral sunscreen uses natural minerals to protect the skin by forming a barrier on its surface. Instead of absorbing UV rays, it reflects them away — like a tiny shield. Common Ingredients Zinc Oxide Titanium Dioxide These minerals are gentle, non-irritating, and ideal for delicate or reactive skin. Benefits of Mineral Sunscreen Gentle and suitable for sensitive or eczema-prone skinStarts protecting immediately upon applicationOffers broad-spectrum protection against UVA & UVBSafer option for babies, kids, and pregnant women Potential Drawbacks May leave a white cast on deeper skin tones Slightly thicker texture compared to chemical formulas What Is Chemical Sunscreen? Chemical sunscreen works differently. Instead of sitting on top of the skin, it gets absorbed into the upper layers and converts UV rays into heat, which is then released from the skin. Common Ingredients Avobenzone Homosalate Octocrylene Oxybenzone (increasingly avoided due to sensitivity concerns) Benefits of Chemical Sunscreen Lightweight, invisible finishNo white castIdeal for daily wear under makeupGreat for sports and outdoor activities thanks to water-resistant options Potential Drawbacks Can irritate sensitive or eczema-prone skin Needs 15–20 minutes to start working Some ingredients may trigger breakouts or redness So… Which Sunscreen Is Better for You? The answer depends on your skin’s needs: Choose Mineral Sunscreen If: You have sensitive or eczema-prone skin You’re applying sunscreen to a baby or child You want instant protection You prefer a gentle, non-reactive formula Choose Chemical Sunscreen If: You want a lightweight, invisible finish You wear makeup daily You spend long hours outdoors and prefer water-resistant textures You dislike the feel of thicker creams The Bottom Line Both mineral and chemical sunscreens are effective — but your skin type, comfort, and lifestyle will determine which one feels best for you. What matters most is consistency. The best sunscreen is the one you will actually use every single day. Whether you choose the gentleness of mineral sunscreen or the lightweight feel of chemical formulas, regular sun protection is key to keeping your skin healthy, radiant, and protected year-round.

5 Reasons Why Kids Need Their Own Skincare Routine

As parents, we always want what's best for our children. We teach them healthy habits from a young age, like brushing their teeth and washing their hands, but what about their skin? Establishing a skincare routine for kids is just as important, and it's never too early to start. Not only can a skincare routine help keep your child's skin healthy and clear, but it can also teach them the importance of self-care and hygiene. And with our kid's skincare, it's never been easier to give your child's skin the love and care it needs.  An important first step is our Happy Kids Face Duo. These gentle, plant-based products are formulated specifically for children's delicate skin and are rich in amino acids and vitamin Bs to gently cleanse and nourish skin.  But why should kids start washing their face at a young age? For starters, children's skin is more prone to irritation and dryness, so a gentle cleanser like the Kids Face Wash can help keep their skin clean without stripping it of its natural oils. Additionally, starting a skincare routine early on can help prevent future skin issues like acne and premature aging. Teaching your child to care for their skin now will set them up for a lifetime of healthy habits.  Here's a simple facial skincare routine you can follow with your child: 1. Start with the Kids Milti Vitamin Face Wash. Wet your child's face with warm water and apply a small amount of the face wash, gently massaging it into their skin. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry with a soft towel.2. Follow up with the Kids multi Vitamin Face Cream. Apply a small amount of the moisturizer to your child's face and neck, gently massaging it in until it's fully absorbed. This will help hydrate and protect their skin. 3. Finish up with Premium Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 in the morning. Apply a small amount of sunscreen to your child's face and neck before heading out into the sun. It's formulated with non-nano zinc oxide and antioxidants, providing broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays. In addition to face wash and face cream, using a gentle body wash and lotion can help keep your child's skin hydrated and protected from dryness, irritation, and other skin issues. That's why our Kids Body Wash and Kids Body Lotion are formulated with gentle, plant-based ingredients like aloe vera, calendula, and chamomile. These ingredients soothe and nourish your child's delicate skin, and with a choice of three clean fragrances, you can choose the scent that your child loves the most. So next time you're getting your child ready for bed, consider adding skincare to your routine. With skincare formulates specifically for kids growing needs, it's easy to give your child's delicate skin the love and care it deserves. And with a little extra effort, you can help set your child up for a lifetime of healthy habits.
